Commuters Benefit from $1 Million Road Project in South Frontenac

South Frontenac wrapped up a $1.1 million, multi-year road improvement project in 2023.

The Township repaved a 4.7 km stretch of Battersea Road, a busy commuter route used by more than 500 vehicles every day. That’s more than 180,000 cars per year!

Battersea Road was last rehabilitated more than a decade ago. Age, combined with annual wear and tear, contributed to the road’s eventual deterioration. To address problems, the Township repaved the road and replaced culverts to improve stormwater drainage. They also added guiderails on both sides of the road.

The Township used an asphalt recycling process to save time, reduce waste, and keep the project on budget. With asphalt recycling, some of the existing surface material is crushed, mixed with new asphalt, and re-used during the paving process.
