Cornwall Invests in Three Active Transportation Projects

The City of Cornwall is investing the CCBF into three major active transportation projects in 2022.

Cornwall's Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan is the main driver behind these projects, which focus on improvements and additions to the City's bicycle and walking paths.

The Plan was completed in 2010 and recommends an annual investment in active transportation projects. It has been supported by local community groups and stakeholders.

The first of three initiatives will see the resurfacing of approximately 1.5 kilometres of the City's existing bike paths. Cornwall maintains around 40 kilometres of paths within City boundaries, and rehabilitates the trails on a 35-year rotating cycle.

Additionally, in a separate project, Cornwall will build new off-road paths for cycling on Power Dam Drive, Race Street, and between Pitt Street and Edgar Street.

Finally, also in accordance with the plan, Cornwall is installing new sidewalks to enhance walkability around the City on Race Street from Water Street to Marlborough Street, and Iroquois Drive from Marleau Avenue to St. Felix Street.

All three of these projects, supported by the Canada Community-Building Fund, will enhance active transportation opportunities for both residents and visitors to Cornwall, and support active and healthy lifestyles.
