Perth’s Pump Track Tackles Pandemic Blues

The Town of Perth has created a popular bicycle track with support from the Canada Community-Building Fund – and the backing of motivated young members of the community.

The Pump Track at Conlon Farm is the result of the Town partnering with a youth sports organization called the Perth Firedawgs, who raised 50% of the project cost.

A Pump Track is a bike circuit designed to be ridden completely by riders "pumping” – generating momentum through movements, instead of pedaling.

Having secured the 50% funding, the Firedawgs’ idea came to fruition when the Town invested the rest of the money through its CCBF allocation.

Since it opened, the Pump Track has proven extremely popular. It provides a much-needed outdoor, socially distanced activity for kids of all ages.

It is open every day and has been in almost constant use.

It is estimated that around 50 people per day use the track, and the Town has received hugely positive feedback on this new addition to the recreation area.

Once pandemic restrictions are lifted, the Town anticipates visitors from other communities will flock to the track, in turn supporting local businesses.
