Township of Alberton Develops 10-year Asset Management Plan

The Township of Alberton has developed a 10-year asset management plan to help the municipality make strategic investment decisions about municipal assets and improve its overall approach to managing municipal facilities and infrastructure.

Alberton is a small municipality with 958 residents and few municipal staff. Like all municipalities, Alberton’s staff work to find efficiencies in spending and must thoughtfully plan for capital expenditures. A thorough asset management plan is a resource for the Township and its Council to focus on long-term capital budget planning and to help staff prioritize capital investments.

From June 2023 to June 2024, the Township:

•    catalogued Alberton’s assets
•    rated the condition of each asset from poor to good
•    determined a maintenance schedule for assets
•    calculated the cost of maintenance for each asset
•    investigated sources of external funding

Over the next 10 years, the Township plans to spend nearly $1.15 million on infrastructure upgrades. At the same time, Alberton’s population is expected to grow by more than 1,100 people by 2034. With an asset management in place, the Township can better anticipate future infrastructure needs, mitigate the risk of service disruptions, and budget strategically for capital expenditures.
