Create a sign

Welcome!

Federal infrastructure signage is required for most projects supported by the CCBF. But there are dozens of templates - and the templates aren't particularly easy to work with.

So we modified the templates slightly - making PDF files easier to manipulate, and adding Ontario's logo where appropriate. We also created this page to help you select the appropriate template for your CCBF project.

Click "Get started" when you're ready to proceed. We'll ask you a series of questions to figure out which template is best suited for your project - and hand you copies of that template in PDF and AI format.

Is your project eligible for CCBF funding?

You might have taken a wrong turn. This page is intended to help you prepare signs for projects that are eligible for - and receiving - funding through the Canada Community-Building Fund.

Many local infrastructure projects are eligible for funding. Need inspiration? Check out our list of eligible investment categories and the latest project profiles.

Use the button below to start over - or come back once you've had an opportunity to identify an eligible project.

Many local infrastructure projects are eligible for funding through the Canada Community-Building Fund. But if you're not sure whether yours is, we suggest that you take a quick look at our list of eligible investment categories. If your project matches an example in the list, it might be eligible.

Continue your investigation by examining the FAQs in our reporting site. Our guidance there summarizes - and updates - eligibility criteria described in Schedules A, B, and C of the Municipal Funding Agreement - the document governing your community's use of the Fund.

And if you've skimmed all of these resources and are still unsure about the eligibility of your project, contact us! Our team is here to help you out.

Sum all costs that have been - or will be - incurred to complete the project. Include all costs - even if they are being covered by another source of funding. This sum is the total cost of your project.

Your community is neither required nor expected to post a physical sign for this project. We nevertheless encourage you to post a sign on your community's website or social media channels if you consider it reasonable to do so.

Bilingual signage is not required in this community - but we recommend that you create a bilingual sign anyway to better serve the information needs of all residents. Bilingual signs are identical to unilingual signs, except that project titles are written in both official languages. Translation assistance is available from Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada if needed.

Great! We have everything we need to hand you the appropriate template.

Two files will be downloaded to your device when you click "Continue" - one copy of the template in PDF format, and another copy in AI format. The PDF file may open in your browser; please save the file to your device before editing it.

We recommend using the PDF template for digital signage, and the AI template for physical signage. Adobe Illustrator (or an equivalent software package) is required to manipulate the AI file. But nothing special is required to edit the PDF template; most PDF readers will do the job.

Before printing or publishing these templates, please add:

  • Your municipality's logo;
  • A three- to five-word title; and
  • The total cost of the project.

See the federal infrastructure signage guidelines for examples and further guidance. Also see our communications page for guidance describing how to post signage for projects with multiple locations, without a physical location, etc.
