Bridge in Muskoka Being Restored
A vital bridge in the District Municipality of Muskoka that has served travellers in the community for many years is receiving some much-needed work.
The Acton Island bridge has been standing for several decades, and is starting to show its age. In 2023, the Municipality is completing a full rehabilitation on the bridge to preserve the infrastructure and maintain its original service life of 75 years.
The Acton Island Bridge is a throughway to an island, and used frequently by property owners and cottagers. While the majority of the work is being done on the bridge, the project also includes resurfacing and drainage improvements to Muskoka Road 29.
The District Municipality of Muskoka is investing more than $1.8 million from the CCBF into the project. Work, which includes replacement of the concrete surface and new paving, waterproofing, and various safety updates to the bridge’s structure, is expected to be completed by early winter.
