Cambridge Installs new Accessible Play Structure in Red Wildfong Park

Modern, accessible playgrounds and green spaces that promote inclusivity for all ages are a priority for the City of Cambridge. In 2023, City invested $121,000 from the CCBF to replace the play structure at Red Wildfong Park in the community of Hespeler.

The City surveyed the local community to choose design elements for the new play equipment. Originally, Red Wildfong Park featured swings, a slide and a gravel surface, all of which limited safe and inclusive play. Based on survey feedback, designers provided two different playground renderings, and residents voted for their favourite.

The new design features multiple play areas for different ages and abilities, accessible swings, plenty of shaded areas, and wood-fibre surfacing that is both accessible and increases overall safety.

Replacement of the equipment at Red Wildfong Park coincides with the City’s development of an overarching parks master plan that will help guide the future of all the City’s parks over the next 30 years.
