CCBF Helps Fund Underground Cell Service for Ottawa Commuters

Thanks to a $1.5 million investment from the Canada Community Building Fund, Ottawa residents will have cell phone service on the O-Train South Line 2 between Dow’s Lake and Carleton stations.

The Dow’s Lake tunnel, a 600-meter stretch between Dow’s Lake station and Carleton station, is the only section of the O-Train South Line that runs in a tunnel, and the only section that had no cell service.

Cellular service will be provided by antennas and radiating cables fed from three cellular cabinets in the tunnel. Fiber optic cable is run to these cabinets from existing cellular infrastructure. This ensures there are no cellular dead zones in the tunnel and the areas leading to and from it.
