CCBF Investments Help Rehabilitate Community Centre Roof After Storm

A community landmark in the Township of Wilmot has a new leakproof roof thanks to investments from the Canada Community-Building Fund.

The Haysville Community Centre is an important hub for the community and provides space for many local organizations including Girl Guides, Scouts and New Hamburg and Area Cooperative preschool. Residents visit the community centre to access First-Aid training, join church services, host private events, and more.

The Community Centre roof was originally scheduled for replacement in 2023. Wilmot council committed to the project as an investment in local recreation infrastructure due to the age of the original roof.

This project was unexpectedly expedited in 2021 after heavy rain and wind caused significant damage to the roof, and the Township was forced to tarp the damaged area.

During the storm, shingles were lifted from the roof, causing large leaks that affected the structure, insulation, and light fixtures. Thanks to support from the Canada Community-Building Fund, construction work on the Haysville Community Centre roof was completed in 2022.

Ensuring the safety and enjoyment of community facilities for all users, local and visiting, was a top priority for the town.
