Chatham Kent Unveils New Active Transportation Route

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has developed an active transportation trail to connect multiple communities together with the help of an $840,000 CCBF investment.

The project transformed part of the former CASO (Canadian Southern) rail corridor - an 11 km stretch of former railway line between St. Thomas and Chatham - into an active transportation trail. The new path is three metres wide and made of crushed limestone, which was added after the existing property had been leveled.

The CASO corridor runs parallel to Highway 401 and this section was identified to be developed by CycleON as an expansion of the larger trail network. This expansion connects many communities along the trail together with a new healthy transportation option, and is perfect for hikers, cyclists, runners and bird watchers to get out into nature and take in the scenic views.
