Collingwood Retrofits all Municipal Buildings with LED Lighting

A community energy project in Collingwood is helping to fight climate change and make buildings more energy efficient and welcoming.

The Town invested $500,000 of CCBF funding to retrofit all twelve town-owned buildings with LED lighting.

On top of other benefits, the project will save an estimated 369,000 KWh of energy and $82,000 of utility and maintenance costs every year. That means within approximately 10 years, there will be a complete return on investment for the total project budget of $770,000, plus energy savings equivalent to powering 20 households annually (or powering a Playstation non-stop for each of Collingwood’s 25,000 residents).

The Town’s recreation facilities,  town hall, and more, have had energy-efficient LED lighting installed, which improves visibility and safety in the buildings while reducing energy consumption and operational costs.

The project involved installation of state-of-the-art lighting and control products by local contractors, after the creation of photometric designs and the completion of on-site audits.
