Georgina Investing in Rehabilitation of Roads in Local Subdivision

The Town of Georgina has undertaken a large-scale roads project supported in-part by the CCBF. 

In June of 2021, a council resolution was approved to assume ownership of 6.8 kilometres of roads in a subdivision that were formerly maintained by a local camp association in the community of Udora. Since the initial construction in the 1960s, many of the roads had fallen into disrepair, and there is now a need to bring the roads up to a safer standard. 

In 2022, the Town officially commenced the preliminary planning for rehabilitation of the roads and ditches. Between 2022 and winter of 2023, the Town worked with an engineering firm to identify issues – including non-standard road configurations, potholes, water run-off issues, and overgrowth of trees – and developed a plan to address these challenges. The Town also consulted with the local community and presented options for solutions.  

With preliminary work completed, the Town has now started a detailed engineering design for the improvement of the gravel roads, and has a 10-year phased plan for completion.
