Hamilton Invests in Community Sports
The City of Hamilton has made significant improvements to one of its community sports fields using investments from the Canada Community-Building Fund.
The Melissa Tancredi soccer pitch, located in the Robert E. Wade Ancaster Community Park, underwent significant changes in 2020. Upgrades to the field were intended to allow for a more formalized layout intended to enhance both the player and spectator experience.
Changes to the area included a complete reconstruction and shifting of the field surface, installation of irrigated grass, new goalposts, relocating of the players’ benches, moving four lights, and installation of fencing and a gate.
The Melissa Tancredi soccer field is located on the east side of the park, and is just one element of this community space, which includes a playground, arena and community centre.
Thanks to the Canada Community-Building Fund and local partnerships, the City was able to complete this first phase of work. Additionally, the Ancaster Soccer Club has future plans to add more bleachers, install a scoreboard and build a press box at the soccer field.
