New Playground Revitalizes Park in Fauquier-Strickland

The Township of Fauquier-Strickland has built a new playground, turning an underused park into a popular gathering spot. A $63,000 investment from the Canada Community-Building Fund made this project possible.

The new structure replaces a playground that was more than 30 years old, located in a park right by the town’s centre – a great location that saw little use. Recently, Fauquier-Strickland has seen more families with young children move into the community. In fact, the number of children living in the Township has nearly doubled over the last 10 years. This growth highlighted the need to replace the outdated playground structure, and help revitalize a park that could become a central community hub.

The new structure opened in May 2023 following several months of construction. The redesigned playground is entirely plastic, and includes slides, climbable sections, and shaded areas. Crews also replaced the grass around the structure with woodchips, which are more forgiving if a child falls

The Township often hosts events in the park, providing activities for the adults – like community barbeques - while the children enjoy the playground. Residents can also reserve the park and playground for a fee, which helps cover operational and maintenance costs.
