Recreation Centre Upgrades Contribute to Welcoming Environment in Calvin

The small northern municipality of Calvin has implemented a variety of upgrades to its recreation centre that were made possible with the help of a $27,000 investment from the Canada Community-Building Fund.

Multiple projects were completed over 2023 and 2024 and have provided a much-needed facelift to the recreation centre that will benefit the entire community. These improvements have extended the durability of important indoor and outdoor facilities.

Baseboard heaters, rusting radiators, worn changeroom flooring, damaged ceiling tiles, and windows have been replaced, along with new installations of energy efficient heaters, which all together will lead to energy savings. Outdoors, there has been repainting, landscaping - including flower gardens, added benches, refreshed hockey nets, and an added community bulletin board. Finally, the original washrooms have been updated with new heated and accessible washrooms.

Though many of these improvements are not flashy or immediately apparent, they make a big difference from an operational perspective, and allow for a more welcoming environment for community members.
