Sediment Removal From Pond Keeps Oshawa’s Water Supply Clean

The City of Oshawa is investing $325,000 from the Canada Community-Building Fund for the removal of sediment from a stormwater management pond at Brasswinds Trail.

The manmade pond is constructed to temporarily store stormwater and allow sediment to settle at the bottom of the pond instead of travelling downstream. The pond also prevents erosion and flood damage, and improves the water quality and habitats for fish.

The City schedules the removal of sediment buildup every 10 years to ensure optimal functionality and allow more sediment to settle.
