Seguin Develops Housing Needs Assessment to Prepare for Growth
Communities across the province – whether large or small – are dealing with housing and affordability issues.
Seguin is a small but fast-growing municipality in northern Ontario. The Township has a short construction season due to its aggressive winters, and building on top of the Canadian Shield presents additional construction challenges not experienced in some other parts of the province.
Recently, land in the Township was re-zoned to allow for residential development, providing an opportunity for responsible and managed growth.
Additionally, the Township has invested $22,000 from the CCBF to develop a Housing Needs Assessment using with the Government of Canada’s template to prepare for anticipated growth in the community.
This type of assessment provides an evidence-based analysis of local housing needs and gaps, and strengthens the town’s ability to plan for appropriate future infrastructure investments in roads, waste collection, recreational facilities, and water and wastewater systems.
Completion of Seguin’s Housing Needs Assessment will help set the Township up for successful and manageable growth.
