Town of Hearst Makes Significant Investments at Local Recreation Centre
Significant upgrades at the Town of Hearst’s recreation centre will vastly improve the user experience for the community’s 4,800 residents.
The Town invested $140,000 from the CCBF into upgrades to improve the arena, swimming pool, changerooms, washrooms and overall accessibility and safety of the facility.
Major components of the heating and cooling system in were replaced or upgraded - some of which had not been upgraded since construction in the 1970s. These changes will help reduce energy costs and prolong the life of the equipment.
Another major area of focus was the swimming pool, which will now operate effectively long into the future. The HVAC system for the pool and changerooms was updated, as well as the heating and filtration systems for the pool water including almost all of the piping that pumps the water from those systems into the pool.
Additionally, the aging arena refrigeration system was replaced, along with the hot water system for the Zamboni.
New accessible washrooms and showers were added to the building along with an improved hot water system. A new “mudroom” also helps improve the quality and safety of other spaces including the change rooms by keeping winter messes contained.
