Wastewater
Eligible Projects
Projects eligible for Canada Community-Building funding under this category are those that result in the construction, material enhancement or renewal of infrastructure that supports wastewater and stormwater collection, treatment and management systems.
Examples
Eligible projects under this category include (but are not limited to):
- Separation of combined sewers and/or combined sewer overflow control, including real-time control and system optimization;
- Separate storm water collection systems and/or storm water treatment facilities or system;
- Fixed generators supporting waste water treatment and/or distribution systems;
- Rolling stock, such as sewage and vacuum trucks, in communities where wastewater is trucked to facilities for treatment;
- Replacing sanitary or storm sewers;
- Installing pump stations and lift stations;
- Designing and constructing a wastewater treatment plant or a sewage lagoon;
- Naturalized water diversion or infiltration (e.g. establishment of living dykes, rain gardens, bioswales, and permeable land cover);
- Construction or restoration of naturalized water retention or detention systems (naturalized stormwater ponds, wetlands, and coastal restoration);
- Lagoon sludge removal to ensure the full length or extended length of the planned asset life;
- Infrastructure to monitor, recover (for purposes of energy generation) or reduce methane emissions from landfills such as methane control systems, flaring or covering/biological process breakdown; and
- Construction and rehabilitation of stormwater management ponds.
