Local Roads & Bridges

Eligible Projects

Projects eligible for Canada Community-Building funding under this category are those that result in the construction, material enhancement or renewal of roads, bridges, tunnels, and active transportation infrastructure (e.g., bike lanes, sidewalks, trails, and paths).

Examples

Eligible projects under this category include (but are not limited to):

  • Widening and resurfacing local roads, including preparatory work and necessary materials (e.g. asphalt or gravel, dust suppressant);
  • Building roundabouts;
  • Adding speed bumps in school zone;
  • Replacing bridges and culverts;
  • Purchasing fixed LED speed signs;
  • Vehicle or pedestrian bridges, overpasses, or underpasses;
  • Bridges supporting ATV trail networks;
  • Adding sound barriers, safety fences or snow fences;
  • Toll infrastructure where the toll supports a bridge or road;
  • Expanding trail systems with lighting, modifying grades and adding bike ramps to stairs;
  • Constructing or improving pedestrian and cycling bridges; and
  • Implementing pedestrian crossings with signage and flashing beacons, and addressing safety in school zones through engineering strategies like enhanced crossings and traffic calming measures.
